"I feel like butter scraped over too much bread" - Bilbo (from the movie version)
Sometimes short posts say the most. Julie said a lot when she asked why?
My Take:
- Visual Studio 2003 for like 2 years had MAJOR bugs in it that couldn't be addressed by MS cuz they're short on devs (I guess).
- Office 12 has been cranking for years now... to offer (hold the
presses) gussied up menus? And a new chromed look? I'm going to be
majorly annoyed if it still SUCKS when it's released.
- Anyone get the feeling that Windows Mobile is just 5 guys chained to a desk in Ballmer's basement? What major improvements does it offer over say... the last version? Not much. A bit of support for wireless stuff - but nothing stellar.
- Longhorn. Should be called short-horn, and too-late horn after all the slips and major components that they've yanked from it. (That, and I'm still appalled at the hardware requirements despite the fact that I LOVE eye-candy...)
MS' core business, shipping software, seems to be majorly constipated.
Now MS is going to try to become a major player in the content/ad arena? puhhhlease. How many devs are they going to divert to this?
Maybe they should sell coffee too. I hear that there are great margins involved. They could compete with Starbucks. Or donuts... MS could start put stores in all major towns to sell you jelly filled goodness; Krispy Kreme is going out of business - MS could muscle in on that market...
Hell, at LEAST if they went after coffee and donuts they probably wouldn't have to devote so many dev resources to it...
